Emailing a prisoner

You can email prisoners held in Queensland correctional centres with the Email a prisoner service.

There are costs associated with this service.

Signing up

You can sign up online. You will need to provide:

  • your proof of identity and home address (PO Boxes are not accepted)
  • the prisoner’s name, correctional centre and IOMS number.

Learn how to find a prisoner in a correctional centre.

To get their IOMS number, email statewideoperationscommunications@corrections.qld.gov.au with their full name and date of birth.

Once your account is created, you’ll get a confirmation email with a security code. Use the security code to finish setting up your account.

Learn how to prove your identity for this service.

Sending an email

Like other emailing services, you can log in to your account and send your email from there. When you hit send, it will go to the correctional centre where the prisoner is located.

Attaching photos

You can attach up to 4 photos per email.

A prisoner can only be given photos that the correctional centre approves. Learn more about approved photos.

Delivering your email

Your email is sent to the centre and reviewed in the same way we process normal mail. Then we’ll print it out and give it to the prisoner.

Delivery can take up to 3 working days.

Replies

If you ask for a reply email, we’ll give the prisoner a reply sheet. Once they’ve written their reply, we’ll scan and email it back to your Email a prisoner account.

You’ll also get a notification at the email you used to sign up.
